Slomosa Are Bringing Tundra Rock To Australia For The First Time

Share

Norway doesn’t do things halfway, vast, cold landscapes, silence that feels heavy.

Then bands like Slomosa come along and turn that isolation into something loud enough to shake walls, the Bergen four piece have carved out their own lane with what they call tundra rock, a sound rooted in the grit of Kyuss and Black Sabbath but pushed through a colder, more expansive lens.

It’s stoner rock reworked for a different kind of desert, now after years of building momentum across Europe and the US, Slomosa are finally heading to Australia for the first time.

From Bergen to the world

Slomosa didn’t start with a grand plan, it was, as guitarist and vocalist Ben Berdous puts it, a way to drink beer and play music with friends, but something stuck.

Their 2020 self titled debut quietly racked up over 10 million streams, driven by tracks like ‘Kevin’ and ‘In My Mind’s Desert’, since then they’ve pushed further into their sound with Tundra Rock, a record that leans heavier into melody while keeping the weight intact.

“‘Tundra Rock’ is ‘Desert Rock’ in our terms,” Ben explains (per press release). “A desert doesn’t have to be warm. If you think about it, the biggest desert in the world is Antarctica.”

That perspective sits at the core of everything they do, big riffs, but with space, melody, but never soft.

What Slomosa are chasing in Australia

The band let us know five things they are especially looking forward to about heading our way next month:

1. Getting the chance to finally meet Aussie fans in person and play our music live in Australia for the very first time is something we’ve been looking forward to for a long time.

2. Experiencing the culture firsthand and connecting with the people across Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane is a huge part of what makes this trip so exciting for us.

3. Diving into the local Australian food scene and trying as much of the cuisine as we can while we’re on the road is definitely high on our list.

4. Having grown up watching Steve Irwin, we’re especially excited to see some of Australia’s unique wildlife up close.

5. Spending our downtime skating and getting tattoos is always part of tour life for us, so we’re hyped to check out spots like Bondi Skatepark and Martin Place and take in the local scene.

There’s no overthinking it here, new country, new crowds, and a band ready to see how it all hits in real time.

Why this run matters

Slomosa aren’t arriving as a band testing the waters, they’ve already proven they can carry rooms overseas, this run feels more like a first contact moment. Tundra rock finally landing in Australia, not as a concept, but as something loud, physical, and real.
