Black Mirror Is Back and Ready to Mess You Up

Netflix has dropped the first trailer for the new season of Black Mirror, promising six fresh doses of tech-induced paranoia.

Premiering April 10, the latest round of dystopian nightmares is stacked with a heavyweight cast, including Peter Capaldi, Issa Rae, Paul Giamatti, Rashida Jones, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Awkwafina.

For the first time, the show is doubling back on old ground. USS Callister, one of the best episodes from season 4, is getting a continuation. Cristin Milioti returns as Nanette Cole, the computer programmer who found herself trapped in a twisted virtual world. Jesse Plemons’ sadistic Robert Daly didn’t make it out alive, but several others did—Billy Magnussen, Milanka Brooks, and Osy Ikhile are all back, and somehow, Jimmi Simpson’s character is making a return too.

Charlie Brooker’s also bringing back Bandersnatch alumni Will Poulter and Asim Chaudhry, though they’ll be playing new characters. As for what to expect from the episodes themselves, the Black Mirror creator has teased everything from gut-wrenching emotional punches to full-blown tech nightmares. “We’re doing some things we’ve not done before,” Brooker said, adding that one script in particular might be the bleakest the show’s ever done—which is saying something.

Black Mirror first hit screens in 2011 via Channel 4 before Netflix picked it up in 2016, turning it into a global juggernaut. The show’s mix of dark satire and sci-fi horror has been copied to death, but nothing else quite hits the same. Over six seasons, it’s picked up multiple Emmys, including wins for San Junipero, USS Callister, and Bandersnatch. After a long break, it returned in 2023 with solid reviews.

Now, with Brooker still at the helm alongside executive producers Jessica Rhoades and Annabel Jones, Black Mirror is ready to remind everyone just how doomed we all are. Whether it’s AI, VR, or some fresh existential crisis, expect another round of episodes that make you question everything and trust nothing
