Charli XCX is adding ‘filmmaker’ to her growing list of titles. It has just been confirmed that shooting for The Moment—her A24-backed mockumentary is underway in London.
Details are being kept under lock and key, but word is the mockumentary follows the pop star gearing up for her first arena tour. If Charli’s past work is anything to go by, expect satire, synths, and zero creative compromise.
The cast keeps expanding, with Rish Shah (Ms. Marvel), Isaac Cole Powell (The Franchise), comedian Kate Berlant, and Stath Lets Flats mastermind Jamie Demetriou now on board. They join the already stacked lineup of Alexander Skarsgård (Succession), Rosanna Arquette, and Trew Mullen (Blink Twice). Last month, some casting briefs went out for additional roles on the project. One of the characters, Tim, was given the description of ‘Late 30s. British. Manager. Used to play in a band until he realised he was much better at admin than he ever was at synth.‘
Charli isn’t just starring—she’s also co-producing through her company, Studio365. Her longtime partner in crime, A. G. Cook, is handling the score, and Scottish director Aidan Zamiri is making his feature debut. No release date yet, but given Charli’s record, it’ll probably drop out of nowhere at 2 a.m.
This isn’t her first venture into film, either. She’s also set to appear in The Gallerist alongside Jenna Ortega and Natalie Portman, plus Gregg Araki’s I Want Your Sex. Oh, and last year, she casually shot an entire movie called Erupcja in Poland. She might also be appearing in Greta Gerwig’s new Narnia film as the white witch. Because well why not?
Meanwhile, Charli’s still running laps around the music world. She’s headlining and curating a day at Lido Festival 2025, hitting Primavera Sound, Glastonbury, and Parklife 2026. If there’s an award for ‘most booked and busy,’ it probably has her name on it already. With The Moment in motion, Charli’s proving she can do it all—just don’t expect her to slow down anytime soon.
