There’s a certain je ne sais quoi to the harsh landscape of regional Australia that lends itself to film with startling effect. Perhaps it’s the eerie silence, or the fact that other than outer space, it’s one of the few places on Earth that no one can hear you scream. Suffice to say, the scenery can offer plenty to the crime thriller genre, as we see with the forthcoming release of Aussie cinematic classic in waiting The Dry, starring Eric Bana and set for release in Australian cinemas on Friday, 1st January 2021.
Adapted from Jane Harper’s fictional novel of the same name, The Dry is nonetheless set to the very real backdrop of drought-stricken regional Victoria. Following the also very realistic events of a murder-suicide, Federal Agent Aaron Falk (played by Eric Bana) returns to his hometown to attend the funeral. The trip home soon takes on a different purpose all together as Falk becomes plagued by an unsolved mystery, as he discovers that two tragic events, though happening decades apart, may be connected.
