Dayseeker returned to Melbourne on Wednesday taking the stage at the Corner Hotel for a show that leaned into the emotional weight and darker textures of their new album Creature in the Black Night.

The Dayseeker crowd packed in early, ready for a set that pulled from the band’s alt-metalcore roots while showcasing the sound they’ve been sharpening over the past few years.

The band delivered a mix of older favourites and new material, opening with ‘Pale Moonlight’ before moving through ‘Shapeshift’, ‘Dreamstate’ and fan favourite ‘Sleeptalk’.

The show also featured three live debuts, ‘Crawl Back to My Coffin’, ‘Bloodlust’ and ‘The Living Dead’, giving Australian fans the first taste of the album’s heavier, moodier direction.

Philippa Grosse, who photographed the night, captured the atmosphere and noted how the setlist blended past and present in a way that ‘hit their crowd right in their emotions.’

Between tracks, Dayseeker vocalist Rory Rodriguez took a moment to speak about his childhood and the experiences that shaped some of the band’s most personal songs. It added a reflective edge to a performance already built on honest, open hearted storytelling. His comments echoed themes the band have touched on throughout the album rollout, particularly around the record’s exploration of emotional distance and the push-pull of personal growth.

Dayseeker formed in 2012, but shows like this make it clear they’ve entered a new phase. Creature in the Black Night has seen them fully embrace a darker, more cinematic style while still carrying the melodic intensity that built their fanbase. Judging by the response inside the Corner, they’re connecting with listeners in a way that suggests a strong few years ahead.
