Imminence put on a killer show at Sydney’s Liberty Hall last weekend, marking their Australian debut to a crowd all too eager to welcome the Swedish violincore group with a bang.
Iconic violincore group Imminence made their debut Australian appearance last week, bringing their The Return of The Black Tour to our humble shores.
Joining the Swedish rockers was Sydney’s very own Inertia, who brought an immense stage presence to the show. You couldn’t ask for a more killer act to set the scene for what was to come.
As soon as Inertia left the stage, the rumblings of frontman Eddie Berg’s iconic violin could be heard roaring throughout the venue. If one thing was for certain, it was that the audience was in for a night of absolute cinema, and all that tension in the room was going to explode.
No other band in the space right now can balance dazzling elegance and sheer brutality like Imminence can. As the band launched into their opening track, ‘Temptation’, you could feel the audience’s jaws collectively drop on the floor.
As the band weaved through their set, you could feel the audience get pulled into Berg’s gorgeous melodies and electric playing. Which was all the more impressive as the frontman would move to let out the gnarliest screams you’ve ever heard.
The rest of the band also played a part in this hypnotic, theatrical stage presence. Guitarist Harald Barrett appeared like a looming spectre, his long hair and cloak. At one point in the show, the guitarist would strum his chords with a bow, drowning the room in crushing reverb and filling it with a sombre soundscape.
The night would conclude with a powerful performance of ‘The Black’, a crushing yet emotional track from last year’s album of the same name. All members of the band poured their souls into their performance, thrashing around during the song’s heaviest drops.
As the song reached its conclusion, Berg would take centre stage and perform a rendition of ‘Le Noir’, closing on one final melancholic yet beautiful piece of music. After a night of emotional and chaotic metalcore, you could see the emotion pour out of the frontman and reflect in the audience.
The band would then take their final bow, leaving the audience starstruck at the otherworldly performance they had just bore witness to. This was Imminence’s first time here in Australia, but you better believe we’re dying to have them back sooner than later.
