Karnivool took Bar On The Hill’s stage with BIG NOTER, sending the crowd into a frenzy as they played new tracks ‘Drone’ and ‘Ghost’, ushering a new era for the band.
Karnivool took over Bar On The Hill last Thursday, bringing along heavy hitters BIG NOTER for a one of a kind gig. Despite things being quiet on the release front, the band has not been quiet. The AD COMPLEMENTUM tour started July 16, and follows after a lengthy string of performances throughout Europe last year, plus several festival gigs.
And clearly, the tour sparked their creative juices as immediately following, the group locked themselves away in a Perth studio for five months to bang out some new material. We finally got our first tease of a potential new album with the track ‘Drone’, which the the prog-rock legends have been bringing out on tour, and it’s proven to be a welcome addition to the setlist.
“We can’t bloody wait to get out there and share what’s been brewing in the Karnivool riff pot, and show folks what they have to look forward to,“ said frontman Ian Kenny on the tour. And you better believe they’ve brought their A-game to these shows.
BIG NOTER set the scene as frontman Briggs stormed the stage, commanding the attention of the audience. The set was heavy, direct and too the point, just like the bands music. You know an opener has killed it when the energy was as high as it was for the headliner.
Karnivool quickly reminded everyone how impactful they were, opening with their track ‘All It Takes’, their throwaway single from 2021. The syncopated riffs controlling the crowd to start headbanging to the song’s contagious ryhthm.
There’s a reason Karnivool are one of Australia’s best and most consistent rock bands, and their gig at Bar On The Hill only further cemented their status.
