On a cold winter’s night in Brisbane, post-hardcore fans were treated to a stunning show as long standing California favourites Touché Amoré kicked off their Australian headline tour at the Triffid.
Militarie Gun, the openers for Touché Amoré on this eight stop trek from Brisbane to Perth, were nothing short of fantastic either. If you have tickets for the tour, you have to make sure you’re there early enough to catch the whole set, or you’ll be sorely missing out on an amazing performance.
Militarie Gun frontman Ian Shelton is nothing short of brilliant, and on the night wielded a charisma that set the crowd alight from the opening notes. Their set was filled with catchy sing-alongs and a tight sounding band worthy of their own headline Aussie shows (maybe soon?).
The 2024 release ‘Thought You Were Waving’, written about the difficulties of understanding the struggles others are facing, was beautifully performed and sparked the biggest crowd response.
By the time the band closed out their opening performance, the crowd was primed and ready – and then it was time for Touché Amoré.
The band’s passionate performance was led by the striking vocals of lead singer Jeremy Bolm, who commanded the stage and gained maximum input from the eager crowd on the night.
Playing hits from Touché Amoré’s large catalogue, it was the sing along to ‘Come Heroine’ that stood out as a highlight from the night – only to then be outdone by Bolm finishing the night in the arms of the front row. Touché Amoré is one of those bands that absolutely nails their live performances, and Thursday at the Triffid set the tour off with a bang for its opening night.
