Gallery: Loathe Shake Sydney’s Metro Theatre To Its Foundations With Sold Out Show

Share

There are packed rooms, and then there are nights like Loathe’s sold out stop at Sydney’s Metro Theatre, the kind of show where the walls feel like they’re breathing and every inch of space is charged with tension.

Returning to Australia for what has quickly become one of the most talked about heavy tours of the year, Liverpool outfit Loathe delivered a set that pushed the Metro to its absolute limits, the all ages crowd wasted no time turning the floor into a pressure cooker, with a relentless mosh pit erupting within moments and crowd surfers launching toward the barricade just a few songs in.

Security barely had a second to reset before the next wave came crashing through, Photographer James Miller captured it all from inside a room that felt almost too small to contain what Loathe brought to it.

The band’s blend of crushing heaviness and atmospheric vulnerability translated perfectly live, moving seamlessly from the suffocating intensity of “Aggressive Evolution” and “Broken Vision Rhythm” to the soaring emotional release of “Two-Way Mirror” and “A Sad Cartoon.”

As the night unfolded, it became obvious this was a band operating well beyond club theatre status, the Metro was absolutely heaving, and the sheer force of the audience response suggested they could have easily sold out a second Sydney date, if not levelled up to a larger venue altogether.

The encore sealed it. “Is It Really You?” transformed the venue into a full voiced singalong before “Gored” detonated as the final exclamation point, sending the room into one last frenzy.

If Sydney was anything to go by, Newcastle and Brisbane should prepare accordingly.
