Refused’s Good Things Festival sideshow in Melbourne was all-out chaos, and a ripper way to send off the icons before they call it a day.
Visiting Australia one last time as part of their worldwide farewell tour, Refused stopped past the Northcote Theatre before their appearance at Good Things Festival.
It was all-out chaos from the get go, frontman Dennis Lyxzén jumping, kicking and finessing his way all over the stage. His command of the crowd was on point, and they made sure to send that energy right back to him.
Dennis took some moments throughout the night between songs to share his thoughts and feelings with the crowd. He brought up politics and how this kind of music is built for rebellion, he touched on mental health, something felt deeply throughout the crowd. He also mused over the different stages of Refused’s career, emphasising their desire to make this farewell a big celebration, as well as prioritising visiting our country one last time, as we’ve welcomed them so warmly with every visit.
A part of Dennis’s political discussion that stood out and especially resonated with the crowd was this: “If you think trans people are the problem, if you think immigrants are the problem, if you think the LGBTQ+ community is the problem, then you might be the problem.”
Refused laid themselves bare all night and gave us one hell of a last hurrah. It’s been a blast, folks.
