Enmore Theatre was absolute bedlam on Saturday night as The Dillinger Escape Plan made their long-awaited return, proving once again why they’re hailed as one of the greatest live bands of all time.
While the night was focused on celebrating The Dillinger Escape Plan’s album Calculating Infinity, Sydney’s Enmore Theatre was treated to the industrial hardcore-rap-grunge blend of supports Ho99o9 to warm things up first – and warm things up they did. By the time they closed out their set, the crowd was electrified and ready for what was to come.
From the second The Dillinger Escape Plan hit the stage, chaos reigned. Retuning frontman Dimitri Minakakis was in the crowd before the third song, igniting a frenzy that never let up. Bodies collided, voices roared, and the pit churned like a living storm, all while the band tore through their set with ruthless precision and unhinged intensity.
The Dillinger Escape Plan treated the stage (and the space well beyond it) like their own personal warzone, every riff, scream, and dive hitting with unrelenting force. Fans who had waited through the band’s eight-year hiatus were repaid tenfold, as the night blurred the lines between stage and audience, performer and participant.
With the tour celebrating the groundbreaking Calculating Infinity and a career of genre-defying destruction, the setlist was a brutal reminder of just how much The Dillinger Escape Plan reshaped heavy music. Every moment felt dangerous in the best possible way, truly living up to their reputation as a force to be reckoned with live.
For longtime The Dillinger Escape Plan fans, it was a cathartic reunion. For newcomers, it was a baptism by fire. And for everyone inside the Enmore, it was unforgettable.
