Borderlands 4 Adds Brutal New Raid Boss Fight In Massive Version 1.7 Update

Share

Borderlands 4 players now have a brand new endgame nightmare to conquer, with 2K and Gearbox Software officially rolling out the game’s second free raid boss encounter as part of the Version 1.7 update.

Available now for all players who have completed the main campaign, the new raid introduces Subjugator and Thol the Invincible, two deadly brothers serving the mysterious Timekeeper deep within the Fadefields.

The encounter is designed as one of Borderlands 4’s toughest challenges yet, demanding both precision mechanics and pure endurance from high level Vault Hunters. The battle initially unfolds as a rotating tag team fight, with each brother attacking separately before eventually combining forces for devastating coordinated assaults. Once one brother falls, the surviving sibling transforms into a more dangerous ascended form, dragging players into one of two dramatically different arenas.

Battle inside Heaven and Hell

Players facing Subjugator will battle inside “Heaven,” a massive airborne arena requiring constant gliding and aerial movement to survive incoming attacks. Meanwhile, those left standing against Thol are thrown into “Hell,” a claustrophobic lava lined sumo ring built around brutal close range combat.

Version 1.7 also expands Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode with the addition of UVHM Level 7. Players who clear the new raid on UVHM Level 6 can unlock timed runs that reward faster completion speeds with increasingly powerful loot tiers.

Silver, Gold and Platinum reward ranks are now tied directly to completion times, with Platinum-tier clears guaranteeing a Legendary drop and significantly improving the odds of earning rare Pearlescent weapons.

The update also introduces a huge batch of fresh gear, including the new Pearlescent Jail Broken Gatling SMG, alongside four additional Legendary weapons and five new Vault Hunter specific Class Mods.

Outside of combat additions, Gearbox has implemented several major quality of life updates requested by the community. Players can now disable Shared Character Progression when starting new characters, while the studio has also confirmed that Cross Platform Saves are currently in active development.

Gearbox has additionally revealed what’s coming next for the looter shooter, confirming the free Takedown at the Hadron Abyss raid and paid DLC expansion Bounty Pack 3: A Zane to Kill For will launch together on June 25th as part of Version 1.8.

With Borderlands 4 continuing to expand its endgame systems, Gearbox appears fully committed to keeping the chaos escalating well beyond launch.
