Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Director Has Teased Potential Plans For DLC: “We May Be Cooking”

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 may be getting DLC in the near future; however, it’s “too soon to say” according to Sandfall Interactive director Guillaume Broche.

Well, it’s looking like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 might be getting some downloadable content in the near future.

Earlier this year, lead programmer Tom Guillermin and director Guillaume Broche shared that they would only focus on improving the game they had released, and weren’t planning any upcoming DLC.

However, in a new interview with YouTuber MrMattyPlays, Broche has admitted that “We may be cooking” in regards to DLC.

Fans have been clinging to hope for more content to explore after completing the game. Despite a sprawling open world at the end, fans were beyond eager to explore more. For example, the adrenaline rush after beating the game’s optional super boss, Simon, has left them (myself included) with a dopamine withdrawal that only more superbosses can fix.

Lead writer Jennifer Svedberg-yen previously told a fan that while the studio didn’t have “anything concrete” on plans for DLC, she did say “we’ve always said if there is strong desire from the players that we would love to do something more, and based on the response, I’d say chances are good.”

Broche has also been vague about future DLC prospects; however, seems to be warming up to the idea. In his interview with MrMattyPlays, he simply teases that “there may be” a post-launch plan; however, it’s “a bit too soon to say.”

Does that mean we could get a potential DLC to explore more areas with extra lore on the Painters and Writers conflict? It’s unclear. But if the devs are willing, I’d even take extra Gestral obstacle courses with more goofy swimsuit costumes if it means another reason to dive back into the game.

Earlier this year, the studio admitted it had plans for a Clair Obscur sequel; however, it’s tough to know it will take us after its fairly definitive two endings. Fans reckon it could continue to explore its established Painter vs Writer’s conflict, or follow suit with the Final Fantasy franchise and entirely pivot into a new story with shared elements.

Broche has previously said the only way to succeed as a franchise is to “ignore the first game completely“. How that’ll work for a sequel is anyone’s guess, but after such a smash debut hit, I’m on board for Sandfall Interactive’s wild ride.
