Metallica are bringing one of their most iconic songs into the world of gaming once again, with ‘For Whom The Bell Tolls’ set to feature in the upcoming Gears Of War: E-Day.
Rather than simply dropping the original recording into the game, players will be able to select a brand new instrumental version of the classic Ride The Lightning track as the main menu theme.
The instrumental will also be available as lobby music during both Versus and Horde Siege modes, giving players another way to soundtrack their battles through the Locust War (per Lamb Goat).
It will be one of four music options available when Gears Of War: E-Day launches, with developers confirming additional menu themes are expected to arrive after release.
Metallica’s involvement doesn’t stop with the music
Fans will also be able to purchase a premium in-game cosmetic pack inspired by the band’s landmark 1984 album Ride The Lightning, the themed skin set makes a brief appearance in the newly released multiplayer reveal trailer, which also uses the original studio recording of ‘For Whom The Bell Tolls’ throughout the action packed preview.
The crossover continues a long history between Metallica and the gaming world, with the band frequently appearing across major franchises and rhythm games over the years.
Gears Of War: E-Day serves as a prequel to the original Gears Of War, taking players back 14 years before the events of the 2006 game and exploring the devastating emergence of the Locust Horde on Emergence Day.
The highly anticipated Xbox exclusive launches on October 6th for Xbox and Windows, for both Metallica fans and longtime Gears Of War players, the collaboration looks set to deliver another memorable crossover between heavy music and one of gaming’s biggest franchises.
