A new interview Gorillaz frontman Damon Albarn has given to French magazine, Les Inrockuptibles is hinting that new music might soon be on the horizon.
Now while, I appreciate that I probably look into things far too closely please do hear me out on this one.
The magazine has released the cover for its April edition, which is not yet available to buy. But on the lime green cover, you can clearly see the name “Damon Albarn” followed by a quote underneath. The quote reads: “Un nouveau Gorillaz en 2025.” A quick Google Translate run tells us that means “A new Gorillaz in 2025.” Give or take a few words lost in translation, that’s a pretty strong sign that something’s coming.
If that isn’t confirmation that Gorillaz are gearing up for new music, I don’t know what is.

Reddit has already exploded with speculation. “LETS GOOOO,” one user commented, summing up the general mood. Another questioned the phrasing, wondering if nouveau could mean a reinvention rather than just a new album: “I’m not a native French speaker, but doesn’t that sentence mean something different than just new content? Maybe more like a reset, a new style or something?”
A French-speaking user jumped in to clarify: “It could mean both, honestly. But if it was a full reset, I think they’d be more explicit—something like ‘Un tout nouveau Gorillaz’ (‘a brand new Gorillaz’). Don’t quote me, but I think it just means we’re getting a new album.”
While we wait for the full interview to drop, it’s worth looking at what Gorillaz have been up to. Their last proper tour wrapped in late 2022, supporting Cracker Island. Mind you, they did perform at Coachella in early 2023. Since then though, Albarn has kept busy, recently scoring an opera and still performing with Blur, who made their own comeback in 2023 with The Ballad of Darren.
Now, with this hint of new Gorillaz in 2025, the wait for whatever Albarn has been cooking up just got a whole lot more interesting.
