AC/DC Help Draw Record Crowd to bp Adelaide Grand Final

Share

AC/DC’s performance at the bp Adelaide Grand Final helped pull in a record-breaking Sunday crowd of 102,000 to the Supercars event.

Adelaide just delivered its biggest motorsport weekend to date, with the bp Adelaide Grand Final pulling in a record 102,200 people on Sunday as AC/DC closed out the event.

The turnout saw more people witness the finale of the bp Adelaide Grand Final than either the AFL or NRL Grand Finals, cementing Adelaide’s status as host to one of Australia’s major annual sporting finales – and it’s highly likely AC/DC’s knockout performance at the end of Sunday had a big helping hand.

Across the full run, 285,700 fans passed through the gates, up from 259,400 last year, according to the South Australian Premier’s official website. The surge contributed to an estimated $72.6 million economic benefit for South Australia, fuelled by the Repco Supercars Championship decider and the packed concert headlined by AC/DC.

On track, Chaz Mostert delivered the headline sporting moment by securing his first Supercars championship, celebrated in front of a massive crowd gathered around the podium. As the day shifted into evening, thousands stuck around for AC/DC’s set, which included ‘TNT’ and ‘For Those About to Rock (We Salute You)’ before fireworks closed out the night over the city.

Momentum around the event grew even further when Premier Peter Malinauskas and Supercars CEO James Warburton confirmed a long-term deal that will keep Adelaide as the season-ending stop until at least 2034. The agreement extends the event’s future by a full decade.

Premier Peter Malinauskas said, “The new era of the bp Adelaide Grand Final was an astonishing success. More people witnessed the finale of the Adelaide Grand Final than either the AFL or NRL Grand Final.” He added that “This long-term deal will deliver the security needed to continue to invest in and build this event, to continue to deliver significant economic returns.”

“Between the high stakes drama on the track and the high voltage performance from AC/DC, it was truly a day to remember,” he said.

With the 2034 commitment secured, Adelaide is positioned for even larger crowds, more high-stakes racing and more blockbuster music moments as the Grand Final continues to expand its reach and reputation. While it’s not likely we’ll see AC/DC make a 2026 return (we wish), it’s pretty clear getting the homegrown icons back performing on Aussie soil was enough to give the event a big boost.
