Angels & Airwaves announce new album from space

Tom DeLonge is not a man who does things in halves, so it should really come as no surprise that he announced the new album from his band Angels & Airwaves in space. LIFEFORMS had a premiere, in addition to a reveal of the official album details, after being launched by a renewable hydrogen capsule, thanks to a partnership with Sent Into Space themselves. Alongside the good news came some tour dates as well, which are deemed to be the first of many as part of a worldwide run.

“As a band, we’ve always looked to the heavens to inspire us,” Angels & Airwaves commented, “so it seemed fitting to go higher than ever before for this one – bringing you the announcement from SPACE.” Alongside watching the launch video below, the band have also shared the sophomore single from what represents their sixth studio album, titled ‘Restless Souls‘. The song is addressed as a letter to humanity from the perspective of God, as DeLonge explains: “’Restless Souls’ in many ways is [an] honest letter from God to humanity – because life seems to always be looking for ways to inspire, clarify and teach us when things become more difficult,”

It follows on from lead single ‘Euphoria‘, which took DeLonge back to his roots. “In a music world that seems to be absent [of] guitars, angst, and emotional authenticity,” he explained at the time, “I felt it was important to lead with a song that mirrors the post-hardcore days of my youth, where the power of the music creates that feeling we once had as teenagers, where we wanted to break something and change the poisonous environment within our broken homes.” He concludes: “These emotions create us. This song shows the seductive nature of an intense love built with that baggage from our youth, from being born into an imperfect household.”

Speaking on the record as a whole, DeLonge describes the forthcoming studio album as “a journey through different relationships, different points of view, and how we each have our own life path.” LIFEFORMS will be out on September 24.
