Rose Tattoo Frontman Angry Anderson Has Died

Gary “Angry” Anderson, the unmistakable voice of Australian hard rock institution Rose Tattoo, has died aged 79.

Anderson’s family and Rose Tattoo confirmed his passing in a statement today (September 23rd), saying he died on the evening of Monday, September 21st surrounded by loved ones in Australia.

No cause of death was disclosed in the statement.

Anderson had recently been receiving medical care after Rose Tattoo were forced to cut short their final European tour in August. Later that month, the band confirmed the singer had suffered a cardiac arrest and remained in hospital receiving treatment.

The Anderson family and Rose Tattoo have asked for privacy and said they will not be giving interviews as they grieve.

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Gary “Angry” Anderson on the eve of Monday 21 September 2026, surrounded by his loved ones here in Australia.

Angry was a devoted father, and much-loved bandmate, friend, and member of the wider music and entertainment community. His loss will be deeply felt by all those who knew and loved him both here in Australia and overseas.

The family and band members are asking for privacy at this difficult time and will not be giving interviews. We kindly ask that their wishes are respected as they come to terms with this devastating loss and take time they need to grieve.

Anderson became one of Australian rock’s most recognisable frontmen through Rose Tattoo, whose uncompromising hard rock sound made them an enduring influence at home and internationally.

Formed in Sydney in 1976, Rose Tattoo built their reputation around songs including ‘Bad Boy For Love’, ‘Rock ’n’ Roll Outlaw’, ‘We Can’t Be Beaten’ and ‘Scarred For Life’.

Anderson remained the defining voice and public face of the Tatts across five decades.

His death comes during the band’s 50th anniversary year, which Rose Tattoo had planned to mark with their final run of live performances.
