Sydney’s BESTIES Sign To Greyscale Records And Drop New Anthem Deadmau5

Share

Sydney pop-punk risers BESTIES are stepping into an exciting new chapter, officially signing with Greyscale Records and marking the occasion with the release of their infectious new single, Deadmau5.

The track lands as the trio prepare to hit the road across Australia later this month as main support for Canadian pop-punk outfit Story Untold, giving fans their first chance to hear the carefree anthem live.

Announcing the signing, the band said they found the perfect home with the independent alternative label (per press release):

“It can be hard finding people who get you, or what you’re trying to do. And Greyscale were the label who understood we’re not trying to do anything. We’re just idiots with instruments, and that’s why we work.”

“In a scene and industry where people are so deathly serious, it’s been a godsend to find people who understand that there’s a path to success while sticking true to who you are.”

Their latest single, Deadmau5, captures exactly that spirit, built around bright hooks and tongue in cheek energy, the track is an unapologetic celebration of resisting conventional adulthood and choosing fun over caution.

The band describe it as an anthem for anyone pushing back against the pressure to “grow up” and conform.

“Life’s too short to be safe, take a risk and don’t forget through it all, you’re still that dumb emo kid at heart, just like us.”

Produced by Nat J. Sherwood, whose credits include Stand Atlantic and Yours Truly, the single showcases the polished yet playful edge that has quickly made BESTIES one of Australia’s most promising alternative acts.

Since winning triple j’s DIY Supergroup competition in 2022, the Sydney outfit have gone from strength to strength, landing Unearthed Feature Artist honours, scoring triple j rotation with Love Bombs featuring Yours Truly, and appearing at major showcase festivals including BIGSOUND and SXSW.

They’ve also built a strong live reputation, sharing stages with acts including Maggie Lindemann, Lil Lotus, Teenage Joans and Goldfinger.

With Deadmau5 out now and a national tour locked in, BESTIES are proving there’s still plenty of room in Australian pop-punk for bands that don’t take themselves too seriously.
