Billie Joe Armstrong Tells ICE to “F**k Off” in Support of LA Protestors

Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong has made it crystal clear where he stands on ICE. It’s certainly not quietly in the corner.

Over the weekend, the punk icon took to Instagram to show support for protestors in Los Angeles who’ve been rallying against recent workplace immigration raids carried out by ICE, all while the National Guard looms under Trump’s new executive order.

Armstrong didn’t mince words. Sharing footage of the protests—complete with burning cars and the chaos unfolding in downtown LA, he soundtracked it with Green Day’s aptly titled 2024 track “Fuck Off.” The post’s caption was A middle finger emoji next to an ice cube. Subtle? No. Effective? I mean, absolutely.

Fans jumped in immediately, calling it “the perfect song for what’s going on right now” and thanking Armstrong for “consistently being on the right side of history.” One even pointed out how rare it is for an artist of his legacy to stay loud when it actually matters.

He wasn’t alone. Finneas also voiced support for the protestors, sharing similar posts slamming ICE and encouraging military personnel to defy orders if they’re being told to infringe on civil rights. “You don’t have to go through with it,” he posted, linking to the GI Rights Hotline.

What began as a peaceful protest on Friday spiraled into something more charged over the weekend, as the National Guard rolled in. By Monday morning, CNN reported dozens of arrests in both LA and San Francisco, and things are showing no signs of slowing down.

Armstrong’s history of calling out political injustice isn’t exactly new. Back in 2016, Green Day led a chant of “No Trump, no KKK, no fascist USA” at the AMAs. They’ve since continued using their stage—and merch—to fundraise, provoke, and stay loud about the things that matter.

Now, with the country once again boiling over, Armstrong’s message is clear and consistent: if the system’s fucked, don’t stay silent. Shout louder.
