Bloc Party are due to make their way back to Australia this August. Here, they will be celebrating 20 years of Silent Alarm with a run of massive shows.
The UK indie-rock pioneers will play their 2005 debut in full, alongside a set of career-spanning highlights. Joining them for the ride are American alt-rockers Young The Giant, making their first Australian appearance in 14 years.
For Bloc Party, this isn’t just another nostalgic run diving headfirst into the past, it’s a celebration. I think everyone reading this probably has some sort of connection to Silent Alarm. I speak for myself when I say I hadn’t quite heard an album like it before. It was a raw, jittery collision of dance-punk rhythms and post-punk anxiety. It also helped reshape 2000’s indie rock. It also helped reshape 2000’s indie rock.
Tracks like ‘Banquet,’ ‘This Modern Love,’ and ‘Helicopter’ still hit like a lightning bolt. That mix of urgent guitars, frenzied percussion, and Kele Okereke’s emotionally charged vocals gave the album its restless energy—one that never faded. Bloc Party leaned into that intensity last year, tearing through Silent Alarm material during their co-headline tour with Interpol. Now, they’re going all in.
Support act Young The Giant are also making a long-overdue return to the land down under. Bringing their anthems ‘Cough Syrup,’ ‘My Body,’ and ‘Mind Over Matter.’ Their last visit was back in 2011 for Splendour in the Grass, so it’s certainly been a hot minute.
Pre-sale tickets are released on Wednesday, 19 March at 9am local time. General on-sale tickets are released on Friday, 21 March. Tickets can be purchased here.
