Bloodbath are returning to Australia for the first time since 2019, expanding their previously announced Dethfest appearances into a seven date national tour with Brazilian death metal veterans NervoChaos.
The Swedish outfit had already been confirmed for Perth Dethfest and Melbourne Dethfest, but five additional shows have now been added in Adelaide, Hobart, Brisbane, Sydney and Canberra, with NervoChaos joining them for the entire run.
It’ll be Bloodbath‘s first time on Australian stages in eight years, having last visited in September 2019 when they headlined the inaugural Southern Slaughter Festival in Sydney and Melbourne.
Formed in 1998 as a side project involving members of Opeth and Katatonia, Bloodbath originally came together through a shared love of old school Swedish death metal. What started as an opportunity to revisit the genre’s early sound eventually developed into a band with an extensive catalogue of its own, including Resurrection Through Carnage, Nightmares Made Flesh and The Fathomless Mastery.
Paradise Lost vocalist Nick Holmes has been fronting the band since 2014, with their most recent studio album, Survival of the Sickest, arriving in 2022. That record was released three years after their last Australian visit, so next year’s shows will be the first opportunity for local audiences to hear its material performed here.
NervoChaos
Joining them are NervoChaos, who also haven’t been back to Australia since 2019, when they toured alongside Incantation.
The Brazilian band formed in São Paulo in 1996 and have spent the past three decades building their reputation through constant touring and a steady run of releases. Their sound draws heavily from old school death metal while incorporating elements of thrash and black metal, and they’ve continued adding to their catalogue since their last Australian visit.
The two bands will begin the tour at Perth Dethfest on February 27th, with the festival taking place at the Rosemount Hotel before the tour heads east for five headline dates.
Melbourne Dethfest will bring the run to a close at The Croxton on March 7th, where Bloodbath and NervoChaos will be joined by New Zealand’s Stalker, F*** I’m Dead, Ashen, In Malice’s Wake, Writhing and Trepacide.
With both bands returning after such lengthy absences, the expanded tour gives Australian death metal fans a chance to catch them together without having to travel interstate for one of the festival appearances.
