It’s a crossover that feels both entirely cursed and deeply inevitable, Creed — yes, that Creed — will be emblazoned across a high-powered IndyCar for this year’s Indianapolis 500.
The gods of divorced dad rock have teamed up with Meyer Shank Racing and SiriusXM to slap their logo on Felix Rosenqvist’s No. 60 Honda, just in time for the 109th running of the race on May 25.
The car will rock a “papaya” and black paint job (read: orange) and cruise around one of the world’s biggest racing events while sporting a giant CREED logo like it’s 2001 again and you’re crying in a Ford Explorer.
According to the band, they’ll be attending their first Indy 500 in person to witness this monument to early-2000s rock radio nostalgia hit top speeds. “Seeing this incredible car in person will be a highlight for us,” they said in a statement. There’s currently no word on whether Scott Stapp plans to scream With Arms Wide Open from pit lane.
Team co-owner Mike Shank seems genuinely stoked about the car, saying SiriusXM has been helping “bring new energy and personality into the sport through music.” If new energy means 25-year-old rock anthems and slow-motion bald eagle montages, that mission has been accomplished.
Currently, Rosenqvist sits eighth in the NTT IndyCar standings, so he’s got a shot — slim, but a shot — of taking this car from meme to miracle. And let’s be honest, if he even makes the podium, you know someone’s cranking My Sacrifice at full volume.
It’s not every day you see a band known for post-grunge power ballads trying to blitz past open-wheel rivals at 230mph. But here we are — a Creed car, real and roaring, hurtling around Indianapolis like a sonic boom from the past that refuses to be silenced.
Catch the chaos on May 25 via FOX. Because in this life, you either drift into obscurity… or you drive with arms wide open.
