Deaf Club Pulls Music From Spotify: ‘F*** Spotify’

Share

Hardcore band Deaf Club has joined the growing trend of artists pulling their music from Spotify in protest, citing not wanting to “contribute to the war machine.”

Deaf Club is now part of a growing chorus of artists speaking out against Spotify, and putting their money where their mouth is by then taking their entire music catalogue off the streaming platform.

In a statement posted to social media, they were pretty clear with their reasons. The caption, although posted in Spanish (translated via Lambgoat), explains that the band wishes to “stand with the people” and urges fans to consider other music platforms.

Here’s their full statement:

“Deaf Club will always stand with the people, supporting the human rights that all people deserve. We will continue to stand hand in hand with workers and those who care for the land, fighting against the racist, exploitative, and imperialist culture of American capitalism. Therefore, we have removed our music from Spotify so as not to contribute to the war machine. Please consider other music platforms. Follow us, good people!”

The statement also came paired with an image that includes a number of demands, such as fair pay, ethical investment, and a number of other things, and a big red closing statement that doesn’t mince words: “F*** Spotify.”

Deaf Club isn’t the first to pull their music from the giant, and likely won’t be the last. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Saetia, Xiu Xiu, Deerhoof, Massive Attack, and more have also pulled their catalogues in protest against various issues their perceive with the platform – from unethical investment claims, ICE recruitment ads, to poor payouts. Most have since moved to alternative streaming platforms.

Who will be next to jump on the movement is perhaps the most pertinent question at this point?
