Deftones are teasing their new album release with cryptic live visuals, hinting at a big announcement on July 10.
Deftones are dropping big hints that new music is very close on the horizon. Over the past few months, fans have been treated to occasional updates about the band working on fresh material.
But now, the Sacramento alt-metal legends are basically spelling it out with their latest live show visuals, which strongly suggest an imminent announcement for their next album.
During recent concerts, Deftones have displayed an image emblazoned with the words “private music,” accompanied by the Roman numerals X.VII.MMXXV and a note stating the music was “distributed by Deftones with all rights reserved.”
When you convert those Roman numerals and take into account the European date format, they point directly to July 10, 2025. That means something significant about this “private music” could be revealed in less than two weeks.

This isn’t the first time Deftones have dropped breadcrumbs about their next record. Guitarist Stephen Carpenter recently stoked fan excitement when he told B-Real’s The Dr. Greenthumb show that the new material would feel like a continuation of Ohms and Koi. “You’ll hear us. But I think you’re going to hear things on this one that you never heard on any of them,” he added.
As previously reported, the upcoming record is being produced by Nick Raskulinecz, the studio mind behind Diamond Eyes and Koi No Yokan. His return to the fold suggests Deftones are doubling down on the dense, atmospheric sound that helped them win over a new generation of fans in the last decade.
While there’s been no official announcement from the band’s camp yet, the increasingly blatant hints make it clear something is brewing. And if these cryptic messages are to be believed, Deftones could be dropping new music – or at least announcing it – on July 10.
In the meantime, Deftones are still on tour, where fans can catch these teaser visuals in person if they’re in Europe across July.
Stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to what could be one of the biggest alt-metal releases of the year.
