Donald Trump Weighs In On ‘Ridiculous’ Bad Bunny Super Bowl Halftime Show Booking: ‘Never Heard Of Him’

Donald Trump says he’s “never heard” of Bad Bunny, calling his Super Bowl halftime booking “crazy” and “ridiculous.”

Donald Trump has criticised the NFL’s choice of Bad Bunny as the 2026 Super Bowl Halftime show headliner, calling the booking “ridiculous” during an interview with Newsmax’s Greg Kelly.

The US President claimed he had never heard of the Puerto Rican megastar, despite Bad Bunny being one of the most streamed and commercially successful artists in the world.

“This guy does not seem like a unifying entertainer, and a lot of folks don’t even know who he is,” Kelly said while introducing the topic. Trump responded, “I never heard of him. I don’t know who he is. I don’t know why they’re doing it, it’s crazy, and then they blame it on some promoter that they hired to pick up entertainment. I think it’s absolutely ridiculous.”

Bad Bunny, whose albums have consistently topped global charts, has yet to respond directly to Trump’s remarks. However, he did address the growing right-wing criticism of his Halftime Show booking during his recent Saturday Night Live appearance. “Everyone is happy,” he joked. “Even Fox News.” The show then cut to a tongue-in-cheek montage of conservative hosts edited to say: “Bad Bunny. Is. My favorite. Musician. And he should be the next. President.”

Bad Bunny’s Halftime Show slot has been celebrated by fans, however has been criticised by a number of US politicians. US Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said last week that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents would be “all over” the 2026 Super Bowl, slamming the NFL’s decision to feature the Puerto Rican star. Donald Trump’s former campaign manager Corey Lewandowski also weighed in last week, saying it was “shameful” that someone who “seems to hate America” was performing, also reiterating that ICE would patrol the show.

Bad Bunny has been outspoken about his concerns regarding ICE and immigration policies in the US. In a recent interview with journalist Suzy Exposito for i-D., he explained his decision not to tour the United States next year. When asked if his choice was made out of concern for Latino fans, he replied, “Man, honestly, yes.”
