DZ Deathrays have dropped their latest single ‘Sideways’, a riff-heavy new track that captures the band’s signature chaos and charm in full force.
DZ Deathrays have unleashed their latest single ‘Sideways’ ahead of their upcoming summer tour across the EU and UK. The track arrives via their own record label DZ Worldwide, with an accompanying video directed by James Latter and supported by the Bundaberg Regional Council.
The song delivers all the chaos and groove fans have come to expect, with noisy, dance-ready riffage and propulsive percussion that spirals just on the edge of control. Speaking about the track, frontman Shane Parsons said: “Lachy actually dreamt the riff in this song and somehow we turned it into a woozy dance punk track. I like the way this track almost makes you feel like you’re on a speedboat on the verge of getting sea sick but the adrenaline is keeping you focused.”
The clip finds the band tearing through the track in the middle of a scenic farmsite, capturing the scrappy charm that’s been central to their appeal since the Black Rat and Bloodstreams era.

Following recent releases Like No Other and First Night Fever, Sideways continues DZ Deathrays’ return to a more stripped-back, playful approach. It’s a direction that reflects their current creative headspace — energetic, unfiltered, and driven by instinct.
DZ Deathrays will hit the road next week alongside Press Club, Battlesnake and Mannequin Death Squad. The tour includes headline shows and festival slots at Rock For People (with Linkin Park, Fontaines D.C. and Biffy Clyro), Mighty Sounds (with FIDLAR), and 2000trees (with Kneecap), reinforcing their longstanding presence in the international circuit.
Since forming in Australia over a decade ago, DZ Deathrays have built a career that includes international tours, critical acclaim and a slew of records including R.I.F.F., Bloody Lovely, Positive Rising: Part 1 and 2, Black Rat, and the ARIA-winning Bloodstreams.
With Shane Parsons, Simon Ridley and Lachlan Ewbank at the helm, DZ Deathrays remain one of the most consistent names in Australian rock – and they’re not slowing down.
