Christian Olde Wolbers and Raymond Herrera’s new project has another name, although this one might not be permanent either.
The former Fear Factory members are now operating under Machines Of Hate, replacing the Angst Fabrik name Wolbers unveiled early last year (per The PRP).
The project’s Instagram account has been rebranded accordingly, with Wolbers and Herrera now listed as members. There is one important qualifier: Machines Of Hate is still described as a “working title”.
Angst Fabrik immediately drew attention because the German name translates to “Fear Factory”, inevitably prompting comparisons with Wolbers’ former band. Former Fear Factory vocalist Burton C. Bell later distanced himself from speculation that he might also become involved.
The project became considerably more concrete earlier this month when Herrera appeared in the studio recording drums.
Herrera was a key part of Fear Factory’s classic run before leaving the band in 2009 and has largely stayed away from playing drums publicly in the years since.

The new name keeps the Fear Factory connection intact, albeit in a less obvious way.
‘Machines Of Hate’ is the title of a remix of ‘Self Bias Resistor’ from Fear Factory’s 1997 remix album Remanufacture (Cloning Technology). The phrase also appears in the original song.
It is a particularly fitting reference for Wolbers and Herrera. Herrera played on both Demanufacture and Remanufacture, while Wolbers joined Fear Factory during that era before becoming a long-term member of the band.
What Machines Of Hate eventually becomes is still taking shape. Even its current name remains provisional, and no official release from the project has been announced.
What has changed is that this is no longer simply a new Wolbers venture with a Fear Factory-referencing name.
With Herrera back behind the kit, two former members responsible for a substantial part of Fear Factory’s history are making music together again.
