Music Australia’s Export Development Fund has invested funding in 78 projects to boost musicians’ global careers, including Full Flower Moon Band and Wayside.
Australian artists continue to make waves globally, with Music Australia announcing the latest round of recipients for its Export Development Fund – and the new cohort features a stacked lineup of acts poised to take their next big leap.
Among the 78 projects funded in this fifth round are heavy-hitters like Full Flower Moon Band, who will return to Europe and the UK for their headline tour and make their debut at Germany’s prestigious Reeperbahn Festival. Also receiving support are alternative rock outfit Wayside and indie darlings Folk Bitch Trio, both of whom are gearing up to expand their reach internationally.
In total, $997,787.95 has been awarded to support activities across touring, showcasing, development, and global market building. It’s a major push for homegrown talent, designed to help Australian artists gain ground on the world stage with matched funding for everything from debut overseas tours to intensive writing camps and international press campaigns.
The program backs a wide range of disciplines, with artists like LEE. heading to Los Angeles to develop industry connections and Chandler Jewels heading to Toronto to collaborate with Grammy-nominated producer WondaGurl. Not-for-profit label Music In Exile will launch a global press campaign for Jutna, a powerful album created by musicians with lived experience of displacement and migration.
Since its inception, Music Australia’s Export Development Fund has helped more than 400 projects to date.
This new round follows the release of The Bass Line, Music Australia’s study into the economic impact of the sector. That report revealed music exports now contribute an estimated $975 million to the Australian music industry revenue annually – a sign of strong international demand for what our artists have to offer.
Applications for the next round of funding close Tuesday 8 July. For more information, head to the Music Australia website.
