Bloc Party took over Melbourne’s John Cain Arena last Sunday, taking the audience through a nostalgic setlist celebrating 20 years of their debut album Silent Alarm.
Bloc Party’s 20 Years of Bloc Party tour finally graced Australia last week, and long-time fans couldn’t be happier. The beloved rock group has been on tour for over a year, celebrating the release of their debut album, Silent Alarm, performing ten tracks from the LP.
Joining the band were American alt-rock favourites Young The Giant, who set the scene for a gorgeous night of 2000s-era nostalgia. By the time the headliners came on, the audience was primed and ready for the night of their lives.
Starting with the classic ‘So Here We Are’, the band immediately entranced the crowd, sending us all back to a pit in 2006, being held in a dingy bar. Needless to say, the vibes were unmatched, and for the hour-and-a-half-long set, fans experienced a much-needed flashback to a better time.
There was never a dull moment to be had as Bloc Party tore through crowd favourites like ‘Helicopter’, ‘Banquet’, and ‘Like Eating Glass’, proving their early 2000s classics still hit hard. Vocalist and rhythm guitarist Kele Okereke also delivered a stellar performance, commanding the stage with sharp vocals and charisma, keeping the crowd engaged from start to finish.
The band returned for a four-song encore, ending on a blistering performance of their track ‘Ratchet’, leaving fans on a high like no other.
