Mudvayne guitarist Greg Tribbett and his brother Derrick “Tripp” Tribbett have finally put out some music under the Dead Wyte name.
Their debut single, “Mother Trucker”, comes with a video directed by Dusten Boles, anyone who caught Greg’s early Instagram clips might recognise the title.
The June previews offered a drum heavy breakdown, distorted guitars and a stomping, shouted refrain that all but gave away the single’s name (per Blabbermouth).
Back then, there wasn’t much else to go on. No release date, no full song, just short clips and the announcement that the brothers were working together, now they’ve got something people can actually listen to.
Dead Wyte ‘MotherTrucker’
Greg helped establish Mudvayne’s sound with the sort of jagged, stop-start guitar work that made the band stand apart during the nu-metal boom. He went on to play with Hellyeah and Audiotopsy before returning to Mudvayne for its reunion. The band returned to the stage in 2021 after more than a decade away.
Tripp’s career took a different route. He fronted Florida outfit Twisted Method and spent time playing bass and singing backing vocals with Dope. He also made an unlikely detour into reality television, appearing as “Sinister” on VH1’s Daisy of Love in 2009.
In Dead Wyte, Greg handles guitar while Tripp takes lead vocals. There’s an obvious family connection, but the pair also bring experience from different corners of the heavy music scene.
The timing is interesting. Mudvayne are taking a break this year, with frontman Chad Gray announcing his own run of solo performances earlier this year. Dead Wyte gives Greg another outlet during that pause.
There’s still plenty we don’t know about the new band. No album date or tour schedule was included in the announcement for “Mother Trucker”, and the brothers haven’t outlined what comes after the single.
There’s a full track to judge now, rather than a handful of fragments on Instagram.
