Greta Thunberg Wears Fontaines D.C. Palestine Shirt on Gaza Aid Mission

Share

Turns out Greta Thunberg listens to Fontaines D.C.—or at least she backs their politics.

The climate activist was spotted wearing the band’s Palestine-supporting Bohemians FC football shirt this weekend, just before boarding a boat headed straight for Gaza as part of the ongoing Freedom Flotilla campaign.

In a video posted online, Thunberg delivers a clear message about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, the bombing of the last flotilla boat, and the need to keep pushing for aid delivery—even if the odds are stacked. But while her words were serious, it was the shirt doing just as much of the talking.

That black-and-red kit is a limited-edition collab between Dublin club Bohemians FC and Fontaines D.C., first launched in 2024 to raise funds for Medical Aid for Palestinians. It features a bold Palestinian flag across the chest, paired with “Saoirse don Phalaistín” (“Free Palestine” in Irish), making it one of the most politically charged bits of band merch in recent memory.

Thunberg might be known for taking on world leaders and fossil fuel execs, but the fact she’s repping Ireland’s biggest modern rock export while doing it is a flex we weren’t expecting.

The online reactions have since come fast: “Greta Thunberg in a Fontaines D.C. top in Gaza was not on my 2025 bingo card,” read one post. Same, honestly.

But it tracks. Fontaines have long used their platform for more than moody guitars and poetic street grit. Last year they pulled out of a gig in Istanbul over Gaza, donated prize money to Doctors Without Borders, and dropped a benefit single with Massive Attack and Young Fathers. If you’ve been paying attention, you know where they stand.

Greta clearly does. And whether she’s blasting Dogrel or just wearing the message loud and proud, it’s a hell of a co-sign from one of the most visible activists on the planet.
