After 19 years behind the Guns N’ Roses adorned drum kit, Frank Ferrer has officially gone his own way.
The band have since confirmed the split in a statement, calling it an “amicable exit” and thanking Ferrer for nearly two decades of service.
Ferrer joined Guns N’ Roses in 2006, replacing Bryan Mantia at a time when Axl Rose was still steering the ship solo. His tenure saw him hold down the rhythm section through lineup changes, album releases, and a full-circle reunion featuring Rose, Slash, and Duff McKagan. He remains the band’s longest-serving drummer, outlasting predecessors like Steven Adler and Matt Sorum.
“Thank you, Frank. For the friendship, creativity and sturdy presence over the last 19 years” they wrote on their Instagram post.
Ferrer’s final show with the band took place on November 5, 2023, in Mexico. There’s no word yet on who will be stepping in behind the kit. But many fans are already asking for Matt Sorum’s return. Flooding their social media with comments like ‘Matt Sorum button’ with an arrow to the like button.
Ferrer’s departure follows recent comments from Matt Sorum, who addressed his own exclusion from the band’s reunion. Sorum admitted he struggled with it at first but has since made peace with the decision. “I’ll be honest, in the beginning, it was a little weird. I’m, like, ‘OK, well, it’s a reunion. OK, well, make it a reunion.’ But it didn’t go that way,” he said.
Sorum also revealed that none other than Ringo Starr reached out to him about the snub. “A guy that called me and actually talked to me about it was Ringo,” he said. “And he said, ‘You didn’t get invited to the party.’”
Meanwhile, Guns N’ Roses have been confirmed for Black Sabbath’s final reunion show, set for July 5 at Villa Park in Birmingham. The gig marks the end of an era for Black Sabbath. But for Guns N’ Roses, it is but another chapter in the ever- evolving saga.
