GWAR Resurrect Their ‘School’s Out’ Video In HD Ahead Of ‘Beyond Hell’ Reissue

GWAR have dragged a piece of their mid-2000s history back into the light, releasing a newly remastered HD version of their School’s Out music video.

The band’s characteristically chaotic take on the Alice Cooper classic originally appeared on 2006 album Beyond Hell, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year (per Next Mosh).

The upgraded video arrives just days before GWAR release the Beyond Hell 20th Anniversary Deluxe Edition on September 25th through their own Pit Records.

Originally released in August 2006, Beyond Hell was produced by Devin Townsend and became GWAR’s tenth studio album. The new edition has been remastered by Paul Logus and will also bring the record to vinyl for the first time.

There’s something genuinely new buried among the carnage too, with the anniversary edition containing a previously unreleased outro recorded during the original album sessions.

Townsend has also reflected on how he ended up behind the desk for one of GWAR’s most memorable records.

“I had been a GWAR fan since I was a kid. I loved the freedom, the metal, the spectacle, and the passion that went into it all.”

After meeting late GWAR frontman Dave Brockie while their respective bands were touring together, Townsend apparently took a fairly direct approach to landing the job.

“I met Brockie on a tour we did together and, after cornering him in an elevator basically telling him I’d work for free, I found myself co-producing ‘Beyond Hell.’ Dave and Corey came to Vancouver to stay with me, and we recorded at Profile Studios. The drums and basic tracks were done at Slave Pit in Richmond, Virginia, and the whole process took about three months.”

Two decades later, his affection for GWAR hasn’t diminished.

“GWAR were, and are, an amazing combination of artistic freedom, absurdity, and hard work bundled up with metal and performance. Loved them then, love them now.”

The deluxe edition will be available on CD and 180-gram vinyl, with the latter packaged in a tri-fold jacket that unfolds into an inverted cross.
