Sydney’s melodic hardcore outfit Bloom have locked in October 31 for the release of their second album The Light We Chase via Pure Noise Records, and have given fans the first taste with the single Withered.
The album follows 2024’s Maybe In Another Life, and comes after a whirlwind run of tours across Europe, Japan and Australia. Written and recorded in a short, concentrated burst with producer Sam Bassal, The Light We Chase sees Bloom pushing their sound further while keeping their emotive core intact.
Lyrically, it is set to span personal grief, broken trust and the constant wrestle one has with hope. There is a deliberate contrast in the record’s title too, with the band exploring how the pursuit of something better can sometimes drive you to darker places.
Withered, the first single released from the album, sits at the heaviest end of the track list and captures that tension in full force. Across its runtime, the band move from defiant riffs into moments of slowed desperation, as if letting the weight of it all fully settle. It is also one of several tracks on the album to feature guest vocals, with appearances from Patrick Miranda (Movements), Jack Bergin (Void of Vision) and Mikaila Delgado (Yours Truly) scattered across the release.
Bloom are set to take Withered on the road next month for a run of Australian shows before heading overseas. The Withered Across Australia tour will hit Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney, joined by Inertia and Post Heaven. Most dates for the tour are close to sold out, a testament to the momentum they have been building over the last two years.
Between an ambitious new record, a sold-out homegrown run and back-to-back international tours with bands like Silverstein, Thornhill and Ocean Grove, Bloom are positioning themselves for one of their biggest chapters yet.
