It’s 2020, which means that batshit crazy is the new norm. In that vein, the untouchable Sir Elton John has tagged in Hayley Williams for the latest episode of his Rocket Hour show for Apple Music. The Rocketman himself has dropped compliments for Paramore’s efforts in the past, but it appears that this was the pair’s first official interaction, though John noted that he had been trying to get Hayley on his program “for a while.”
“I’ve been a huge fan of yours since Paramore started and I’ve never met you and it’s been on my bucket list to meet you”, he gushed. The pair dive into Williams’ solo album, Petals for Armor, which was conceived after Williams took a beat from the band and struggled to deal with where she was at that point. “There’s a lot of your soul on this record”, John comments in reference to that, citing Williams as a veteran of the industry after having been active in music for sixteen years. While live music has been benched in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, John also argues that Petals for Armor is “an album full of songs that will sound so great live.
It is truly surreal to hear John give Williams advice, but he does, noting that “it takes a while for you to figure things out in life. It took me until I was 43, until I started to figure out that I needed to change and I needed to take a new direction and think about what I’d been going through. The fact that you’re doing this at 31 years of age will stand you in really good stead. The writing on this album is so beautiful, and it’s very raw, and it’s very touching, and it’s one of my favorite albums of the year. So I really want to thank you for doing it.”
