Hot Mulligan have unveiled their fourth album The Sound A Body Makes When It’s Still, out August 22, with new single ‘And a Big Load’ out now.
Hot Mulligan have officially announced their fourth full-length album The Sound A Body Makes When It’s Still, due out August 22 via Wax Bodega.
Alongside the announcement, the Michigan post-emo outfit have shared the first taste of the record with new single ‘And a Big Load’, a charged, punk-soaked anthem driven by frustration and disarming honesty.
The track dives headfirst into the frustration about the predicaments we put ourselves in, with co-vocalist and guitarist Chris Freeman explaining, “It’s the consequences of your own actions. You could face them; you could avoid them entirely.”
“Our biggest conflicts and struggles are often self inflicted. Drink too much? Hangover. What did you say last night? Apologize… or don’t…You could commit to being sober. You could commit to drinking one million beers. At the end of the day it’ll all be left for you to deal with. It’s terrifying.”

Directed by Michael Herrick, the music video for ‘And a Big Load’ matches the track’s energy with a fast-paced, skate park performance that mirrors the urgency of the song’s lyrics: “Nothing good can come of me, I’m useless.”
The upcoming record is set to be Hot Mulligan’s most cohesive yet, balancing their usual bite and wit with deep existential unease. The Sound A Body Makes When It’s Still will tackle personal fear and paranoia while not losing sight of the band’s signature mix of catharsis and dark humor.
Co-vocalist Tade Sanville adds, “The Sound a Body Makes When It’s Still is a lyric reference. That lyric is in a song about paranoia, which is fear. With the album title, you can go the meditation route, or, the horror that you are in your body, and you have to exist. You have no choice, really. Even if you plan on killing yourself, right now you exist. And that is a terrifying thing.”
