Knocked Loose and Poppy Wreck Jimmy Kimmel with Suffocate

Share

Knocked Loose and Poppy brought utter chaos to Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday (November 26). Performing their Grammy-nominated song Suffocate, it was a rare burst of hardcore on late-night TV.

Knocked Loose kicked off the song with Bryan Garris’ gut-punching screams. Poppy joined soon after, wearing a white dress, and matched Garris scream for scream. Rain poured over the stage, while a full circle pit broke out in the crowd. It was likely a bemusing sight for many. Something that is rarely, if ever, seen on late-night television. Which, in turn, just makes it all the more rock and roll.

After Kimmel’s introduction, Knocked Loose launched into the song with vocalist Bryan Garris unleashing his signature screams. Poppy soon joined him, her white dress stark against the rain-drenched stage as she matched Garris’ intensity note for note.

The camera then cuts to the audience, where a circle pit churned under the rain—rarely, if ever, seen on a late-night stage. The performance felt like a takeover rather than a guest slot, breaking through the polished veneer of the format.

The TV broadcast only showed Suffocate. Fans at the taping, however, got four more songs: Don’t Reach for Me, Moss Covers All, Take Me Home, and Sit & Mourn. All the tracks come from Knocked Loose’s 2024 album, You Won’t Go Before You’re Supposed To. The link to the full performance is here.

Suffocate is currently up for Best Metal Performance at the 2025 Grammys. Though they face tough competition, with Metallica, Gojira, Judas Priest, and Spiritbox also nominated.

Knocked Loose will head to the UK and Europe in March for a headline tour. Meanwhile Poppy was recently announced to be be supporting American metal band Bad Omens on their Australian tour next year.
