Linkin Park Are Already Working On Their Next Album

Linkin Park are already back in the studio, with Joe Hahn confirming that another full-length album is on the way after From Zero.

Speaking with NME around the release of the band’s new documentary Unshatter, Hahn revealed that Linkin Park were working on new material even while they were touring, using days off to get into studios whenever they could.

“Yeah, because we really enjoy being around each other, and we especially love the creation side of things and making music. When we were touring in different cities, if there was a day off, we would go into studios just to tinker around with stuff. And when we finished touring, we decided to take a month off because we needed a break, but then we jumped right back into the studio.”

When asked directly whether that work will lead to another full album, Hahn didn’t exactly dodge the question.

“Oh, yeah… and it’s going to be really slow and boring, and very polarising to everyone [Laughs].”

There’s no title, release date or timeline attached yet, but Hahn’s comments make it clear that From Zero wasn’t intended as a one and done return.

The band are also deliberately resisting the temptation to simply retrace their earlier records.

Hahn said Linkin Park try to move as far away as possible from what they have done before when they enter the studio, allowing familiar parts of their sound to reappear naturally rather than starting with a predetermined idea of what a Linkin Park song should be.

“When we’re in the studio, we actually intentionally deviate as far away as possible [from what we did in the past] because we want to challenge ourselves and experiment. We don’t want to be locked into what’s been previously done.”

That approach helped shape From Zero, which marked Linkin Park’s return in 2024 with Emily Armstrong and Colin Brittain joining the band.

The story of that comeback is at the centre of Unshatter, directed by Hahn and built around footage from Linkin Park’s São Paulo performance on the day From Zero was released.

The documentary hits cinemas today, September 30th.

For now, there’s no indication of when Linkin Park album number nine will arrive. But after slipping studio sessions into tour days off and returning to work after only a month away, the next record is already taking shape.
