Local Spotlight: KALATONE Make Their Mark With Raw and Riff-Heavy Debut EP Pathways

Share

Queensland’s KALATONE have dropped their debut EP Pathways, with upcoming live dates across the Gold Coast and Brisbane.

We’ve got a new band to add to your high rotation playlists, folks: South-East Queensland outfit KALATONE are officially on the radar with the release of their debut EP Pathways, a five-track introduction to the band’s unfiltered take on progressive rock and metal.

Formed through a mutual obsession with fat riffs, explosive drums, and no-holds-barred vocals, KALATONE wear their roots and road-worn history on their sleeve. “Pathways is our debut EP,” the band says. “Five tracks that came from late nights, broken strings, voice cracks, and the moments we almost gave up – but didn’t. This record is a reflection of who we are: raw, loud, emotional, and real.”

Fronted by powerhouse vocalist Tim Pitchford, KALATONE’s lineup also features Gavin Storkey (formerly of NZ act Under) on guitar, bassist Adrian Russo with a melodic-but-devastating tone, and Dave Kemp locking it all down behind the kit. The band lean into a sound that moves between atmospheric, crushing, and fiercely human, rejecting polish in favour of passion.

Pitchford’s vocals move between reflective and emotionally charged, with just the right amount of grit and passion – with a sound that feels like it draws inspiration from Chris Cornell’s vocals.

KALATONE’s arrival doesn’t stop at the studio. The band will be hitting stages across Queensland in the coming weeks, including:

  • The Wallaby Hotel, Gold Coast – July 17
  • Battle of the Bands, The Brightside Brisbane – July 30
  • Rock Is Not Dead Festival, The Brightside Brisbane – August 30

With Pathways now out in the world and a string of shows lined up, KALATONE are making it clear they’re not here to follow trends, they’re here to shake the ground.
