In one of the more unexpected Coachella moments this year, Megan Thee Stallion brought Spiritbox vocalist Courtney LaPlante on stage for the live debut of their collaborative single ‘TYG’.
The performance went down during Megan’s set over the weekend, where she broke out the 2024 track with LaPlante by her side and Spiritbox guitarist Mike Stringer’s production backing the whole thing. Metal and hip hop don’t always cross paths this cleanly—but when they do, it’s rarely on a stage this massive.
‘TYG’ marked the second time these two worlds collided. Back in 2023, Spiritbox dropped a remix of Megan’s ‘Cobra’, proving the pair weren’t just doing a one-off genre stunt. This new live collaboration felt more like a statement—one with growls, distortion, and an artist who doesn’t care about staying in her lane.
LaPlante held nothing back. The contrast between her guttural delivery and Megan’s signature energy shouldn’t work on paper, but it absolutely ripped live. It also might be the loudest Coachella has sounded all weekend.
The moment’s a win for both sides. Megan’s never been shy about blending worlds, and Spiritbox are already halfway through their full sprint to the top. They’re currently touring the US with Loathe and Dying Wish, but this Coachella cameo is the kind of look that gets them in front of a whole new audience. One that probably didn’t walk into the desert expecting breakdowns.
For a festival known for glossy pop sets and surprise guests from the same five Spotify playlists, so it was actually refreshing to see something genuinely weird and heavy break through. And it didn’t feel like a gimmick, it felt earned.
It also certainly proved that metal at Coachella isn’t dead. It quite literally just showed up wearing a chrome bodysuit and a wireless mic.
