Metal and Alt-Rock Tracks Vie for Hottest 100 Glory

Share

Another year, another Hottest 100—triple j’s annual music democracy is in now in session. This time, metal and alt-rock heavyweights are making their presence known. As fans scramble to finalise their votes, the scene’s standout tracks are vying for a spot in the countdown.

The Hottest 100 isn’t just a countdown. It’s a stage for the year’s standout songs. It’s where fans make their voices heard, celebrating the music that’s been on repeat since January. Whether it’s a brutal riff that hit you like a freight train or a melancholic alt-rock anthem that got you through tough times, this is your chance to give those songs the recognition they deserve.

How to Get Involved

Voting is open now, and the rules are simple. Pick up to ten tracks released between December 1, 2023, and November 30, 2024. Struggling to narrow it down? You’re not alone—most of us are drowning in shortlists. But don’t stress; you’ve got until 5pm AEDT, January 20 to lock it in. Whether it’s a powerful new release from Fontaines D.C. or an emotional anthem from Trophy Eyes, the stakes are high.

But, if indecision gets the better of you, triple j’s new Auto Voting feature has your back. Turn it on, and your top 10 will be submitted automatically if you miss the deadline. Handy, right?

The Countdown

The big day is Saturday, January 25, kicking off at 12pm AEDT. Fire up the barbecue, hit the beach, or blast the playlist in your backyard. Wherever you are, it’s a summer tradition. Missed out on the main list? On Monday, January 27, triple j will count down #200 to #101—the underdogs who almost made the cut.

What’s in it for You?

Aside from bragging rights, voting puts you in the running for the Hottest Ticket—a double pass to every triple j-supported festival and VIP access to Laneway Festival.

So, are you backing a blistering breakdown or a haunting alt-rock ballad? Whatever your vibe, it’s time to rally behind your favourite tracks. Get voting.
