Midlake will return to Australia in March 2027 for their first shows here since 2014, playing Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney with songs from their sixth album, A Bridge To Far.
The Texas six-piece will begin at Melbourne’s Corner Hotel on Friday, March 5th, followed by Brisbane’s Brightside Outdoors on Wednesday, March 10th and Sydney’s Manning Bar on Thursday, March 11th.
The announcement ends a 13 year gap between Australian visits, with Midlake returning after recording A Bridge To Far at The Echo Lab in their hometown of Denton. Produced by Sam Evian, the album explores hope, perseverance and human connection, drawing on a musical partnership that began in 1999.
For frontman Eric Pulido, the sessions were about trusting what the band had developed together over that time.
“The reference and inspiration is Midlake,” Pulido says. “This album is less about sounding like someone else and more about sounding like us.”
Bringing A Bridge To Far To Australia
Lead single ‘The Ghouls’ (below) helped spark the album’s creative direction, with ‘The Calling’, ‘Days Gone By’ and ‘Guardians’ also featuring on the record. Madison Cunningham, Hannah Cohen and Meg Lui make guest appearances.
Across more than two decades, Midlake have worked between indie folk and psychedelic rock. Pulido’s comments suggest that, for this album, their own catalogue and experience together provided the starting point.
Australian audiences will get to hear where that approach has taken them when the band return in March. The three announced shows begin with a Friday night at the Corner, followed by a five day gap before consecutive dates in Brisbane and Sydney.
No support acts have been named in the announcement.
Presale opens on Tuesday, November 10th at 9am local time, with general tickets following on Thursday, November 12th at 9am local time. You can register through Destroy All Lines.
