Mumford & Sons Hint at 2026 Australian Tour During Sydney Opera House Show

Mumford & Sons are poised to return to Australia next year. During the bands intimate Sydney Opera House show on March 17, frontman Marcus Mumford dropping a not-so-subtle hint at the band’s return.

Before launching into their final song of the night, Mumford told the sold-out crowd, “Thank you, we’ll be back next year.” That was all it took to send Australian fans into speculation mode, with many assuming a full-blown tour in support of their upcoming album, Rushmere, is on the cards.

Their return would mark their first full blown Australian tour since 2019, and it makes sense given the timing. Rushmere, their first album in seven years, is set to drop on March 28, and with the band already lined up for a massive US, UK, and European tour through 2025, Australia is likely next in line.

Named after the London pond where the band originally hung out, Rushmere comes after what they’ve called “the most prolific two years we’ve ever had.” They recorded the album across multiple locations, including RCA Studio A in Nashville, Savannah, Georgia, and Mumford’s own studio in Devon, England, with producer Dave Cobb.

The album will be their first since the departure of Winston Marshall in 2021, and while the band hasn’t radically shifted their sound, they’ve hinted at a more expansive and textured approach this time around.

Since their 2009 debut Sigh No More, Mumford & Sons have gone from folk-rock revivalists to global festival staples, racking up Grammy wins, a Brit Award, and an ARIA along the way. Their three biggest songs alone have racked up over two billion Spotify streams, proving their staying power even after a lengthy gap between records.

With Rushmere dropping in less than two weeks and their 2025 tour dates filling up fast, an official Australian tour announcement feels like a matter of time. Whether it’s another arena run or something more intimate, expect Mumford & Sons to make good on their promise next year.
