New Music Friday – May 23

PRESIDENT – In The Name Of The Father

Seemingly coming out of nowhere after a cryptic months-long social media campaign, PRESIDENT is the masked wildcard no-one was expecting. Their first track combines melodic, Dayseeker-esque vocals with powerful screams and electronic undertones to create an all-round addictive metalcore track (Just don’t tell the subreddit I called it metalcore).

Oblivion – Lorna Shore

This eight minute epic plunges headfirst into blast beats, guttural screams, and sweeping orchestration. Somewhere in between horror soundtrack and sonic warfare, ‘Oblivion’ is as ambitious as it is punishing.

The Callous Daoboys – The Demon of Unreality Limping Like a Dog

A chaotic, genre-warping blitz that fuses mathcore intensity with theatrical flair and unpredictable shifts. It’s equal parts sonic meltdown and artistic statement, teetering between absurdity and brilliance with every twisted riff and scream. Oh, and it’s got the hardcore mainstay of a seriously satisfying “arf arf” in there too.

I Prevail – Violent Nature

Like a punch to the head in just over two minutes, this track might just be the definition of brutal. It’s raw, intense, and filled with chug-heavy breakdowns and urgent riffing – all anchored by frontman Eric Vanlerberghe, now handling all vocal duties since Brian Burkheiser’s recent departure.

Neck Deep – You Should See Me Now

Bursting with pride and swagger, this track channels everything fans love about Neck Deep – soaring hooks, raw defiance, and an undercurrent of hope just punchy enough to keep your firsts in the air. If this singalong track doesn’t transport you back to the bedroom of your youth (maybe plastered with Blunt posters), I don’t know what will.

Jutes – Left On Dilworth

A slightly heavier track from the Deftones and Bad Omens-inspired sound of Jutes, ‘Left On Dilworth’ layers low-end grooves with melodic vocal shifts. If you’re a fan of Sleep Token, the riffs and soaring vocals particularly towards the middle of the track might be right up your alley.

Chasing Ghosts – Burn The Boats

This track from Naarm First Nations led punk act Chasing Ghosts – from the new album Therapy – is an intense post-hardcore track that blends powerful vocals with dynamic, driving instrumentation. The song delivers a raw emotional punch, capturing themes of commitment and leaving the past behind with urgency and grit.

Electric Callboy – Revery

‘Revery’ by Electric Callboy reveals a darker, more introspective side of the band, trading their usual party-starting energy for emotional depth and cinematic intensity. It’s still packed with crushing riffs and an electronic soundscape fans have come to love, but this time the chaos hits closer to the heart.

We Came As Romans – No Rest For The Dreamer

A relentless anthem of perseverance, fusing crushing riffs with one of the band’s most hauntingly melodic choruses to date. Fueled by emotional weight and raw ambition, it’s a track for anyone still chasing a future, no matter how heavy the past.

Bad Neighbour – Snarling

This track is a raw and reflective slice of indie punk, channelling heartbreak and personal reckoning through soaring hooks and gritty, melodic instrumentation. With its emotional weight and anthemic edge, the track marks a compelling evolution for the Brisbane quartet as they step into a bold new chapter under Ninth Life Records.

Royale Lynn – E.V.I.L

This genre-blurring storm of EDM and metalcore pairs dark introspection with a dancefloor-ready beat that hits just as hard in the pit. With its pounding rhythm and brutally honest lyrics, the track delivers a bold, unfiltered look into mental health wrapped in chaotic, infectious energy.

Kisschasy – Lie To Me

This single channels the signature Kisschasy formula – guitar-driven hooks, pounding drums and introspective lyrics – with a fresh sense of urgency. It’s a tightly-wound, no-frills return that leaves just enough room for nostalgia without getting stuck in the past.

House of Protection – Godspeed

A brooding, cinematic surge of electronic-driven blend of genres that builds tension with every pulsing beat in a way that, at times, almost leans into nu-metal territory. It’s equal parts atmospheric and anthemic, delivering a haunting yet empowering ride through introspection and release.

Brooklyn Comic – Friends Like Us

A punchy, energetic emo anthem packed with catchy hooks and sharp, witty lyrics. The track captures the chaos and camaraderie of friendship with a raw, relatable edge that’s both fun and fiercely honest.

Mélancolia – ALL_IS_RUST

This track from Melbourne outfit Mélancolia is a blistering plunge into their self-forged genre of blackened nu metal, fusing deathcore brutality with industrial chaos and a twisted sense of groove. It’s a scorched-earth evolution that rejects imitation in favour of something darker, heavier, and entirely their own.
