It would appear that the previously announced Black Sabbath reunion show probably required a little more clarification.
Lead singer Ozzy Osbourne has confirmed that he won’t be doing a full set with the band at their farewell gig. Thew news comes in spite of the show initially being framed as a ‘reunion’.
Speaking on his SiriusXM show, Ozzy Speaks, he set the record straight: “I’m not planning on doing a set with Black Sabbath.” Instead, he’ll be performing in a limited capacity, though exactly what that means is still unclear.
For fans who rushed to grab tickets expecting a full Black Sabbath set, the news hasn’t gone down well. Ticket demand was insane. BBC reported virtual queues of 60,000 people, with many assuming this would be a proper Sabbath reunion.
Of course, Ozzy’s health is a major factor behind his reason to pull back. Diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2020 and facing multiple surgeries in recent years, the 76-year-old was left with no choice. He’s since made it clear he’ll do what he can when he feels comfortable. Nevertheless, this upcoming show won’t be the full Sabbath experience that many initially assumed it would be.
That said, this show isn’t just about Sabbath. Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Alice in Chains, Lamb of God, and more are also on the bill. So even if the Black Sabbath portion ends up being more symbolic than substantial, attendees are still in for a very good time.
It’s also all for a good cause too. Proceeds from the event are going to Aston Villa’s Acorn Children’s Hospice, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and Cure Parkinson’s.
So while it may not be the full-scale Sabbath reunion fans hoped for, it’s still a massive night for heavy music. It will also likely be Ozzy’s last major performance, and a send- off for one of heavy metal’s greats.
