It’s taken over 50 years, but doom metal lifers PENTAGRAM are finally making their way to Australia and New Zealand.
The cult out of Virginia—one of the bands that laid the foundation for the whole genre—is locked in for a full run of shows this August.
For the uninitiated: this is the band that helped carve out doom long before it had a name. Alongside Candlemass, Saint Vitus and Trouble, PENTAGRAM are one of the so-called ‘big four’ of doom. But unlike most acts from their era, they’ve kept a foot in the underground while still influencing everyone from Electric Wizard to Pallbearer.
At the centre of it all is Bobby Liebling, a frontman who’s been called the American Ozzy, if Ozzy had stayed in the basement with a four-track and a pile of Sabbath records. In recent years, he’s gone viral thanks to the “Ghoul Eyes” clip doing the rounds online. But those wide-eyed stares are nothing new to fans who’ve followed his story through decades of chaos and comebacks.
This run marks their first time ever on Australian and New Zealand stages, and it’s happening in small, sweaty venues. No pomp, no bullshit—just a doom institution finally showing up where they’ve always been loved from afar.
Early bird tickets drop April 10 at 10:00am AEST via Hardline Media, with general sales taking place on April 14. VIP packages are limited, but include early entry, signed merch and a photo with the band. If you’ve ever cranked Relentless loud enough to piss off the neighbours, this one’s for you.
Tickets can be purchased here.
