Legendary alt-rock pioneers Pixies, who are currently touring Australia with Pearl Jam are set to return in 2025. The tour, which marks their return to both Australia and New Zealand will celebrate their lasting influence on music.
Known for their raw energy, innovative sound, and boundary-pushing approach, Pixies have been one of the most important and consistent bands in rock history. Their blend of surf rock, punk, and surrealism helped define the alternative music scene in the late ’80s and early ’90s. In fact, their groundbreaking 1989 album Doolittle remains a cornerstone of alternative rock, still influencing bands today.
The 2025 tour will see the band perform two consecutive nights in each city. On the first night, they will play their fan-favourite 1990 album Bossanova and its 1991 follow-up Trompe Le Monde in full. The second night will feature a wide range of tracks from their extensive catalogue, including songs from their new album, The Night the Zombies Came, which has already earned rave reviews. MOJO called it “thrillingly deathly,” and DIY praised them as “one of the most consistent, influential bands on the planet.”
Pixies formed in 1986 in Boston, Massachusetts, and quickly became known for their experimental sound, which combined melodic rock with aggressive noise and cryptic lyrics. They hit mainstream success with Doolittle and continued to innovate with each release, earning a devoted following. After a hiatus in the early 2000s, the band reunited in 2004 and has since continued to tour and release new music.
The Australian leg of the 2025 tour begins at Fremantle Prison on November 8 and 9, followed by shows in Sydney (Nov 13-14), Brisbane (Nov 16-17), and Melbourne (Nov 19-20). They will then head to New Zealand for performances at Auckland Town Hall (Nov 23-24) and Wellington’s St James Theatre (Nov 26-27).
