Red Hot Chili Peppers And Foo Fighters Bring Back Rarities At Silverlake Benefit

Share

Red Hot Chili Peppers and members of Foo Fighters brought some long-absent songs back to the stage at the Silverlake Conservatory of Music benefit in Los Angeles on Saturday, 17 October.

The concert at the Hollywood Palladium marked the music school’s 25th anniversary. For Chili Peppers fans, the set included two songs the band had not played live since 2000: ‘Organic Anti-Beat Box Band’ and ‘Blackeyed Blonde’.

According to ThePRP’s report, the band also performed ‘Nevermind’ with John Frusciante for the first time since 1992. ‘Blackeyed Blonde’ and ‘Nevermind’ both come from Freaky Styley, while ‘Organic Anti-Beat Box Band’ appeared on The Uplift Mofo Party Plan.

Frusciante had another rarity of his own, performing a solo version of Carole King’s ‘Will You Love Me Tomorrow?’. The Chili Peppers set also included more recent material, with ‘Black Summer’, ‘Whatchu Thinkin’’ and ‘Eddie’ appearing alongside ‘Can’t Stop’ and closer ‘Give It Away’.

Dave Grohl’s performance drew on Foo Fighters songs and several covers. Consequence reports that his bandmates joined him for Gerry Rafferty’s ‘Baker Street’, bringing back the band’s cover for the first time since 2007. His daughter Violet also joined the performance, which included ‘Times Like These’, ‘My Hero’, Mose Allison’s ‘Young Man Blues’ and X’s ‘Nausea’.

The benefit supported the school Flea helped establish in 2001. Vince Staples was also on the bill, with Marc Maron hosting the evening.

The Conservatory’s scholarship programme provides free weekly individual lessons, instruments and supplies, along with access to ensemble classes and summer camp. It is aimed at children whose families could otherwise struggle to afford music education, with donations and fundraising helping cover those costs.

Foo Fighters’ next Australian visit is approaching. Their Take Cover Tour reaches Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium on 5 November, with Full Flower Moon Band and Mini Skirt opening. The Australian itinerary also includes Townsville, Sydney, Newcastle, Melbourne and Adelaide in November, followed by Perth in January 2027.
