Saliva have released a new video for ‘Rivers’, their tribute to late Limp Bizkit bassist Sam Rivers and his friendship with singer Bobby Amaru.
The video arrived on Sunday, 18 October, the first anniversary of Rivers’ death. Directed by Gray Taylors, it gives the song a new visual release after its appearance on Saliva’s album Breaking Through in August, as The Mosh Network reports.
Amaru described Rivers as an important influence long before this tribute. In a statement shared by Blabbermouth, he said: “He was a huge inspiration to me, and someone who helped shape my path very early in my career.”
The song’s title also carries the image Amaru used while writing it: a river continuing to move after someone is gone. He said that idea helped him express how a person’s influence survives their death.
Their shared musical history includes Sleepkillers. The band featured Rivers on bass and Amaru on drums, alongside vocalist Damien Starkey and guitarist Adam Latiff. Its self-titled debut arrived in March 2019, bringing the musicians together outside the bands for which they were best known.
Rivers explained the project’s beginnings in a 2018 interview with MediaMikes. He and Starkey started writing together in Jacksonville, emerging from an early studio session with the foundations of three songs. The idea developed into an album after other commitments interrupted their initial work.
Amaru joined while songs were still being developed, with Latiff arriving later as the project grew towards a live band. Rivers credited Amaru with helping the material come together and welcomed his decision to play drums.
Breaking Through, released through Judge & Jury Records, places ‘Rivers’ among a collection of songs dealing with loss, addiction and recovery. Amaru discussed those themes when the album was released.
Amaru produced the album with Steve Perreira. Howard Benson and Three Days Grace drummer Neil Sanderson served as executive producers.
Saliva’s current lineup pairs Amaru with bassist Brad Stewart, guitarists Josh Kulack and Sebastian LaBar, and drummer Sammi Jo Bishop.
